With months of uncertainty as to whether schools would reopen, combined with a need to quickly adapt to remote methods of teaching, the education sector has been navigating a mental health minefield.

Education Support was established in 1877; they work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and education staff. They support individuals and help schools, colleges, and universities to improve the mental health and wellbeing of their staff.

They carry out research and advocate for changes in Government policy that benefit the education workforce.

Sinéad McBrearty is CEO at Education Support. They advocate a systemic approach to wellbeing for the education workforce, attending to the individual, the workplace, and the wider policy environment.

In this session, Sinéad presents the findings of the Teacher Wellbeing Index Report 2021 and offers practical recommendations for how schools and Government can begin prioritising staff wellbeing.
