Social Mobility Commission research has highlighted the way in which opportunities are not equal for everyone, with where you live and what your parents do having a major influence on the opportunities you get. They examine how social mobility varies across England and why differences in opportunities, considering the role of both education and the labour market.

Erin Hawkins is the lead analyst at the Social Mobility Commission. She is responsible for the Commission’s programme of research and analysis. They work to improve data collection and analysis, tracking social mobility progress and informing policy, and ensuring that the Commission’s work is evidence-based. Before joining the SMC she worked in the Department for Education and as a research scientist in psychology.
